A short film documenting Kalle Freese & Erika Haa’s trip to London in March of 2013. It’s nice to see a capture of Protein, its feel, vibe and athmosphere. That energy lives on today at Sharps Coffee Bar By DunneFrankowski located on 9 Windmill Street, in Fitzrovia.

In March 2013 we took a train to London to visit our friends and discover new places. We went to several shops, but filmed only in a couple of them - Association, Workshop, Rapha Cycle Club and Protein. Protein was established as a pop-up shop by Rob Dunne, but nowadays he is running Dunne Frankowski at Sharps.

We buy a lot of coffees from different roasters around Europe such as Workshop Coffee, but how do we find the good ones? Some of them are our old friends, but we are looking for new exciting things all the time. In this series we want to tell you a bit more about this process, but also to showcase the makers behind these fantastic coffees and the coffee shops themselves.

    The Eight Chapters of Ramen

No matter where I travel,  people are going a bit crazy for ramen. As this trend is going global. Just as any other imported food which become’s a staple in our diet, simplicity and ingredients go a long way.

Here is a great short film about Ivan Orkin, who after opening two ramen bars in its heartland of Tokyo, is still a foreigner making ramen in Long Island New York.

    Nike+ FuelBand SE UK

Here are some images of the event we were asked to concept for the Launching of Nike+  FuelBand.

The idea was to create an exercise which would demonstrate the kinetic function of the Fuel Band and show the user that even making your morning coffee could burn a substantion amount of energy.

Execution of all design and layout came from Bruno Vincent . Concept adapted from our Tasting Classes and mat formation.

    LONDON COFFEE TOURS

    by

    DunneFrankowski

More and more people have been asking us about doing these. So we have decided with the new year it’s time to give them a crack.

As you all know London has an ever changing coffee culture, which makes it one of the best cities for coffee tourism both professional and enthusiast. Apart from what has happened in the last 7 years, London’s connection to the black liquid goes back over 300 hundred years, making it rich in both old and current history.

So what we would like to offer is 2 area specific tours.

    1. CITY TO SHOREDITCH (4th of April)

Which looks at the history of coffee in London and takes you to where current specialty culture began.

    2. WEST END (5th of April)

This tour is more modern and looks at the fast and ever changing evolution of cafe’s in London.

Both tours will take in 4 cafe’s, some sights, lots of coffee, will last between 2.5 -3 hours and will cost £45 per person coffee and geeky facts included. If you would like to know more send us an email info@dunnefrankowski.com

    You can book here.

2 Years of Protein by DunneFrankowski & Some News

Saturday marked two years since we launched are little hidden away bar in a back streets of Shoreditch.  Since that time we have tasted over 400 coffee’s from roasted around the world, hosted cuppings and events, threw a few parties and gallery shows. We have met wonderful people on from every part of the globe on their coffee adventure in London. Most importantly we have made a lot of friends over a cup of coffee.

All good things come to an end though and as Protein, the digital agency which we collaborated with on this project and who’s building we sit in, are moving after their Christmas break. It is with great sadness that we are going to be be closing our doors for the very last time this Friday.

For for this chapter of the DunneFrankowski this is the end. For our collaboration with Sharps Barbers it’s just the beginning so please come and visit us there.

    Thank you for the memories.

    HEKA

Lauren Davies X Michael Cleland Visualise Taste At Protein By DunneFrankowski

A collaborative, interactive project for Going into Business, an exhibition by recent Royal College of Art, Design Products graduates, curated by Tom Gottelier for the London Design Festival 2013.

Together with Michael Cleland of creative coffee consultancy, Dunne Frankowski, I designed and created a small installation based on our shared love of coffee, perfume and flavour. Visitors to the coffee shop and exhibition were invited to use their sense of smell and taste to help them discover more about the provenance, varietal and processing methods of coffee. As learning progresses sequentially, taste and smell is aided by a reference point or a sensory memory. Our aim was to help people discover these sensory tools in the hope that they would continue to use and develop them each time they drink coffee therefore making them more aware about where their daily cup originates.

The coffees we presented were picked from small, independent coffee roasters who work directly with growers to produce the highest quality beans coffee possible. We used the interaction as a way to engage people and illustrate how Independent coffee is a rapidly growing industry, driven by sustainability and transparency, all in the quest for the best tasting cup of coffee.

As part of the project, I designed a series of limited edition prints. Each print illustrates my own visual interpretations of the unique character of each of the three coffees we were promoting.

    2. Ndimaini AA, Mathira East District, Kenya, SL28 & SL34, washed

    Frieze London

This past week, I had the pleasure of working at Frieze London. Each year, for the last four years, over 60,000 visitors attend Frieze London. These visitors included those with an interest in the art world, such as curators, artists, collectors, gallerists and critics, as well as the general public.

Our friend Hoi Chi Ng of Coming Soon Coffee was invited to design a bar for the event and sit within the gallery space, alongside the art works instead of the catering section. Hence the reasoning for the elaborate bar design.  The beautiful  realistic marble effect, was created using a technique called Needle Felting which was positioned on industrial white felt.

We were very lucky to be operating with equipment supplied by Macro Beverage Systems paired with Bespoke Water System, with the ever friendly chat of Chloe (The Faerietale Foodie

     Joseph Marr

We have watched this man, concept an idea, develop  the process and execute it beautifully from day one.

TWO YEARS ago as we were trying to establish our own business and identity Joseph begin a journey which has completely become him.

It makes us so happy to see him attracting deserved attention for his artwork. I spent the past week within the walls of a vast space, that was Frieze London, where if Joseph’s work had of been there on display, it would easily have made a large impression amongst  the thousands of spectators and collectors who attended.
